Weight Loss and Detox

There are many myths surrounding the benefits detoxing can make to your week weight loss. Proven to cleanse your body of harmful free radicals which can damage your cells, DNA and proteins, many slimmers believe that this is where the health benefits end.

However, introducing antioxidants (which are commonly found in berries) into your week weight loss plan can in fact play a detrimental part to your 2 week weight loss.

In studies by the ORAC, berries such as acai, blackberry, grapes and maqui were all found to be enriched in polyphenol, anthocyanin and resveratrol (antioxidants) which have been clinically proven to burn fats for fuel as they work to cleanse your body of these harmful toxins.

In many instances, antioxidants can help to speed up your metabolism and digestive processes, thus preventing the build up of fat cells.

What is the safest way to detox?

It is important to remember that each detox route is different. Whilst the inclusion of antioxidants in your week weight loss plan may help you to experience free rapid weight loss; others which involve colon irrigation or detox drinks may be limited in the weight loss results they produce.

The key is to remember the following:

  1. DO NOT follow an extreme detox plan - the problem with many detoxes is that they leave in you in shortage of essential nutrients. For this reason it is important to make sure you incorporate the following into your week weight loss plan. - apples, banana, pears, oranges, mango, raisins, strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, carrots, onions, cabbage, peppers, sweetcorn, leeks, broccoli, tomatoes, red kidney beans, haricot, pinto, red lentils, tofu, quorn, oats, potatoes, brown rice, cod, plaice, salmon, crab, haddock, tuna, prawns, peanuts, almond, hazel nuts, pecans, pistachio, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, natural yoghurt, honey etc

  2. DO NOT go on a full detox for more than a week - as mentioned above, detoxing can leave you deficient in nutrients, so it is important that you do it for no longer than a week at a time. Instead go on a detox every couple of months

  3. Whilst on your detox avoid eating certain foods - red meat, milk, cheese, butter, bread, cereals, cakes, chocolate, processed foods, alcohol, tea, coffee, sauces, fizzy drinks etc
